Purpose of Forming an HCA-MN Chapter:
To further the goals of Health Care for All Minnesota at a local level which include educating and engaging the public to build a base of support in order to grow the movement for affordable, universal, comprehensive, high quality health care for all Minnesotans. Work with legislators to pass and implement health care financing reform for Minnesota.
Chapters will:
- Educate themselves and fellow citizens about the non-sustainability, high cost, and unjust policies of our current system and about health care financing reforming options. Methods of education include presentations, written material, website, social media, and one-on-one conversations.
- Promote and build your chapter in your community through publicity, tabling at events, holding events, etc.
- Work with our legislators to share what we have learned about difficulties with the current system, and help advocate for a plan that is commensurate with the health needs of all Minnesotans.
- Mobilize chapter members to advocate for legislation when needed.
How to form a chapter:
Contact Health Care for All MN either via our phone number or email address to indicate your group’s desire to be an official chapter. Our chapter development leads will then contact you and assist you with the process.
Who can form a chapter:
Any existing or new group who wants to further the goals of HCA-MN, or any individual who wants to start a group. A chapter may be geographic, political, faith-based, business-oriented, or a group of individuals who are interested in promoting affordable, high quality health care for all Minnesotans.
What HCA-MN will provide to chapters:
HCMAN will support chapters in their local efforts by providing resources, speakers, and ideas for meetings and events. During legislative sessions, legislation updates and calls to actions will be communicated. The chapter will also be listed on HCA-MN’s website with chapter contact information.
What are some ideas for chapter activities?
Speakers, tabling at local events, book discussions, training on how to write a letter to the editor or using social media, hold a showing of “Fix It” available at www.fixithealthcare.com or “Sicko”….”. See the “Activist Toolkit” for more resources and ideas.
